Waterbury

Waterbury Forklift Parts - Situated around 77 miles northeast of the city of New York and 33 miles southwest of Hartford is Waterbury. It sits on the Naugatuck River within the center of New Haven County, Connecticut. The population is estimated to be about 110,360, making it New England's 9th biggest city, the 5th biggest within the state of Connecticut, and the 2nd biggest within the County.

The first settlement occurred in the year 1674 in a region known as Town Plot. This particular region was shortly vacated just after King Philip's War during 1675. The plot was later returned during the year 1677, within an area which was just slightly west of the first settlement. Both of these historic locations are marked. At first the city was known as "Mattatock" after "Matetacoke", an Algonquin word, which translates to "place without trees". When the city of Waterbury was admitted to the colony of Connecticut on May 15, the year 1686, it was called Waterbury. It was called Waterbury after all of the streams which flow into the Naugatuck River. During that time, the city of Waterbury consisted of several regions which will later become their own towns, such as Plymouth, Watertown, Naugatuck, Wolcott, Prospect, Thomaston, and Middlebury.

Waterbury earned its nickname "Brass City" because of its leading role within the manufacturing of brassware. Waterbury is famous for its beautiful watches and clocks. The motto of the city, Written in marble above the city hall entrance is "Quid Aere Perennius". Translated, "Quid Aere Perennius" means "What Is More Lasting Than Brass?" The city of Waterbury is famous for its gorgeous historic architecture, vibrant art, and advanced technology.

The economy within the city is mostly centered around manufacturing. Then again, Waterbury has begun to stretch into other sectors, like for example chemical research, warehouse and distribution, retail, and banking. The headquarters of Les-Care Kitchens is located in the city of Waterbury, as is the head office of Webster Financial Corp, American Bank of Connecticut, QSend Technologies, Hubbard-Hall, and a range of other businesses.

There are several venues in the city of Waterbury which cater to the cultural and artistic parts of the city. One of the premiere attractions within Waterbury is the Palace Theatre. This historic landmark was built in the year 1920 and has just gone through a $30 million restoration. Another attraction is the Mattatuck Museum. A wide variety of tours are offered, each highlighting different elements of architecture, the art, and history of the Greater Waterbury Region. The Timexpo Museum provides an extremely detailed history of the clock and watch industry in the city. A beautiful, picturesque train ride through the Mattatuck State Forest is offered by the Railroad Museum of New England.

There are several attractions located within the nearby cities of Oakville Middlebury, Thomaston, Lake Quassapaug and Naugatuck, such as The Thomaston Opera House, the Railroad Museum of New England, Black Rock State Park, Branchbrook Campground, Clockwork Repertory Theater, Golden Age of Trucking Museum, Hetzel Refuge, Larkin Bridle Trail and the Quassy Amusement Park.
